A Talk by Effie Rankin on Fr. Archibald Campbell's Account of Gaelic Nova Scotia

May22
Tuesday, 22 May, 2018 - 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM
Fr. John Angus Rankin Cultural Centre

Effie Rankin is going to give a talk for the Glendale Area Gaelic and Historical Society. It will be at 6 pm Tuesday evening, May 22nd at the Fr. John Angus Rankin Cultural Centre in Glendale.

In 1907, Fr. Archibald Campbell, a mission-father, came over to Nova Scotia from Scotland to do a series of missions, through the Gaelic language, throughout the Diocese of Antigonish. He traveled a lot and put on a lot of missions and wrote a series of letters to a Gaelic periodical, Guth na Bliadhna, giving an account of his travels here. He was known in Gaelic as An Sagart Mór, the Big Priest.

Effie researched his trip and will be speaking on his experiences here when most of the rural people spoke Gaelic. There will be no charge for this event but donations would be appreciated. The talk will mostly be in English, but good Gaelic will be spoken too.
